Ethan Hawke Channels Billy Idol In New Film "Clive"

Ethan Hawke, 42, showed off his newly-dyed white blonde hair for the first time as he appeared at the "Opening Night Party" for the New Group World Premiere production of "Clive" at the West Bank Cafe in New York on Thursday night.

Ethan looked barely recognisable and channelled Billy Idol as he posed up at the event, with his blonde hair spiked up with gel.

The event marks the first time Ethan has displayed his new makeover in all its glory, as he has been seen sporting a hat over the past few weeks.

Hawke completed his grungy look by wearing a slick of black eyeliner, adding to his eccentric appearance.

However, instead of just going for a completely new look, Ethan's makeover is for his portrayal in new play "Clive", which he directs.

Speaking about the change in his image, Ethan revealed to the New York Times: "I didn't want to feel like me when I did this role".

"I'm trying to do that old-school, third-person thing by unlocking something as utterly superficial as my hair," Hawke continued.

"I was shooting for a Bowie thing, but then I saw a picture of him after I did it, and he didn't really do his hair like this." Hawke added.

The production, written by Jonathan Marc Sherman, tells the tale of lavish rocker on the decline. Charting the songwriter's life from his hedonistic heights of seduction and consumption into an ecstasy of self-destruction, the show was inspired by Bertolt Brecht's 1923 play "Baal."

It has to be noted that the play is set in New York City and features music by Gaines and costume design by Catherine Zuber. Other actors in "Clive" include Stephanie Janssen, Mahira Kakkar, Aaron Krohn and Dana Lyn.
