According to reports, Barry Manilow, 69, had a facelift in 1995, a second facelift and eyelid surgery in 2003, a third facelift in 2006, plus frequent Botox injections.
In detail, according to plastic surgeons Manilow's skin along his jawline looks stretched to behind his ears, which is an indication of a facelift procedure, where surgical glue is used to help "pin" drooping skin back. Barry's cheeks appear strangely puffy too beneath his signature layers of stage make-up. As for Barry's forehead, it seems remarkably smooth for a man of his age.
It has to be noted that plastic surgery rumors date back to July 2003, when the "Copacabana" hitmaker was said to have had a complete upper and lower facelift. Barry was said to have removed drooping skin from his eyelids and tightened the skin around his jawline.
Just in case you are curious about Manilow's response at plastic surgery rumors, Barry -who has admitted to Botox jabs - denies his current appearance is a result of a plastic surgery procedure.
Manilow claimed in a recent interview: "I did one, 15 years ago. And the press caught me coming out. And that was a very minor thing - I had a big cyst over here," Barry revealed, pointing to his eye, "and another one over here," he told, pointing to his cheek, "and they had to remove it. They didn't know what it was. So I had to go to a plastic surgeon to do it. And he continued: "You know, I can get rid of these things as long as I'm there," he said, pointing to the lines around his mouth. "But that was it. That was it."
When Barry was asked if he plans for another plastic surgery procedure, he replied: "Yeah, and you know, when I was living in Bel Air all those years ago, a big thing was Botox and stuff like that. Everybody was doing it. And I did it a few times and I didn't like it. But in the press, you know, terrible," he revealed, almost exasperated, almost frowning. "I just seem to be the guy - I'm the Joan Rivers of the plastic surgery thing (because) of one picture and the Botox. But I do see those pictures that they think (show) that I've done loads of surgery. And I know why they think that, because those pictures are weird."
Yet Barry attributed his bizarre looks down to steroid jabs for chronic hip pain, rather than plastic surgery.
Manilow was quoted as saying: "They had to keep giving me steroid shots. And steroid shots blow you up. They blow your body up and, most of all, they blow your face up. So when I see those pictures with my face blown up, they attributed that to me and bad plastic surgery."
"And I've asked my publicist: "Can't I just say something about this?" 'Cause this had nothing to do with plastic surgery. 'Cause I'm not interested in it. But I see these pictures and it does look strange," he added.
It has to be noted that Manilow has had surgery to correct torn cartilage in both hips.
On the other hand, plastic surgeons don't seem to beleive Manilow's claims... Dr Roberto Viel, of the London Centre of Aesthetic Surgery, claimed Manilow appeared "very unnatural", adding: "In my professional opinion, Barry Manilow has had a series of cosmetic procedures - removal of under-eye bags, upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and brow lift. He has also used fillers or fat transfer to the cheeks to plump up his complexion and fill out deep facial wrinkles, creases and furrows."
Dr Antony Youn was quoted as saying: "That's too much. I"d like to see a bit more natural aging to his face."
"I believe that facial plastic surgery can create a very natural appearance when the goal is to take 10-20 years off someone. When we start to go after 25, 30, or even 40 years, then people start looking fake," Manilow explained.
"Maybe he should dedicate his song: "I Can't Smile Without You," to his plastic surgeon. (No, not me)," Youn joked.
The blog "Plastic Surgery Spot" sums up Barry's appearance after so much surgery: "Barry Manilow is looking very, what's the word, "surprised" lately."
