American actor and race car driver, Patrick Dempsey (full name: Patrick Galen Dempsey) best known for his role as neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Shepherd on the ABC medical drama "Grey's Anatomy", is rumored to have had a nose job to improve his appearance.
It is rumored that Dempsey, 47, had his nose broken playing hockey in his early 20's and got his nose job sometime around 1991-1994.
When Dempsey appeared on the big screen in the premiere of his new movie "Made of Honor" his nose was a completely different shape than when he starred in films as a kid with a wide and bulbous nose.
Judging by the before and after photos, Dempsey's nose had a wide bridge with a big and bulbous tip while now is undoubtedly thinner along the bridge as well as the tip. His nose has also become more crooked, although its imperfection is considered charming rather than damaging Patrick's overall handsome image.
While there is no proof that Patrick left his nose crooked by choice or the plastic surgeon simply failed, the effect has helped him avoid appearing too feminine as an all-too-perfect nose would not give him the rugged and imperfect masculinity for which he is adored.
Plastic surgeon experts revealed to Realself.com the techniques may have been used on Patrick Dempsey's nose job.
Michael L. Schwartz, MD was quoted as saying: "Looks like a routine rhinoplasty with conservative cephalic cartilage trim, tip shaping and osteotomy. I would doubt any alar base reduction. Two week recovery for light activity, sic for full. All rhinoplasties will continue to change subtly over the first year".
Francis R. Palmer, III, MD explained: "Hard to tell if the dorsal hump existed before without a profile view before and after. Otherwise looks like a closed Rhinoplasty with a Tip plasty. Short recovery time with a retrograde technique IMHO. The most important factor is selecting a Rhinoplasty Surgeon that understands and follows the proper aesthetics of facial (and nasal) beauty for the creation of a naturally, more attractive nose. "
Joseph M. Perlman, MD claimed: "Patrick definitely had the tip narrowed and may have had the nasal dorsal hump smoothed down. The nasal bones themselves look as wide preop as they do postop so I don't think that he had the nasal bones narrowed. I don't think he had the tip raised since on this view it still looks like it is downward. "
Conclusion: Patrick Dempsey's nose is not perfectly straight, but it appears natural and was done just in the right time for his big comeback! It's definitely a well-executed nose job!
